The National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS) provides a clear system of navigation based on well-tried principles, as used by expert hillwalkers and orienteers.

The NNAS scheme is arranged in 3 levels: bronze, silver and gold. This provides a pathway to encourage people to develop their skills in stages. Each level of proficiency is taught as a self-contained unit. Your completion of a level is validated to a national standard, and recognised by a badge and certificate.
 
National Navigator Award
 
Most people will begin with the bronze level, but you may have relevant skills already to allow you to go straight to a higher level. you can work as far up the levels as you want:-
 
BRONZE
Navigation mainly by linear features with help from basic compass techniques. This course has a minimum of 12 hours training, including assessment over a distance of between 3-5 kilometres of suitable countryside.
Ratio 1:6 (Minimum of two clients required).
Price £85 (Non residential).
 
SILVER
On completion of this award participants will be able to plan and follow walks in the countryside away from paths and tracks.This course has a minimum of 12 hours training, including assessment over a distance of 5-8 kilometres in terrain which allows for the demonstration of appropriate skills.
Ratio 1:6 (Minimum of two clients required).
Price £90 (Non residential).
 
GOLD
Complex navigation on contoured, open or wooded terrain employing a full range of interpretative and compass techniques.
