 Winter skills course: This course runs over two days and is designed to give clients the skills needed for the winter environment. Our fully qualified and experienced winter mountain leaders will run the course to your needs, giving plenty of time to practice and learn new skills.

What we cover:

Avalanche awareness 

Ice axe skills

Crampon skills

Winter navigation

Movement skills

Route choice

Self arrest 

This course will be based in the high mountains of Scotland running out of Glen Coe. The course will take place in the mountain environment with the venue being decided on a day today basis dependent on the weather. 

Experience: Basic walking experience.

 5 Day winter skills course: The five day course also runs out of Glen Coe and gives the clients the chance to explore some of Scotland's highest mountains in winter whilst learning and practicing the skills needed to keep safe in winter conditions.

This course is designed to the needs of the clients and is run at a pace that suits. The course is suitable for the summer walker looking to learn new skills and become a confident winter walker as well as clients wanting to improve and refresh their skill.

What we cover: We cover all of the skills from the two day winter skills course as well as emergency shelters, avalanche awareness, basic rope work and winter navigation whilst on a journey.

Programme

Day 1:This is a basic skills day concentrating on movement skills and use of the ice axe. we will look at avalanche awareness and also basic self arrest.

Day 2:We will go on a journey looking at improving skills and learning new ones. Practice is important and we will have plenty of time for this. Safety on the mountain and essential avalanche skills will also be used and practiced.

Day 3:This will be an easier day with the clients learning to construct emergency shelters and snow holes. Ice axe arrest will also be covered in detail.

Day 4: Again this will be on a journey and we will look at some basic rope work, belays and belaying. We will also look at winter navigation.

Day 5:This is where the clients can go over any weaker areas they may have and also have a good mountain day practicing all of the skills they have learnt during the week.
